I don’t know when, exactly, it happened, but it has happened. The government is, officially, the nanny of Americans. Why did this happen? Most importantly, why did the American citizens allow this to happen?

I was reading an article on the Guardian regarding raw milk, that stated that it is harmful to people and it can make people sick and it can cause death, so it is not to be sold.

I can understand this due to FDA regulations, but who is the FDA or any of it’s parents to tell us as individuals what food we can and can not eat or drink. People for ages and survived drinking raw milk and humanity hasn’t collapsed in on itself or become horrible grotesque mutants. Yet, we, as Americans, have allowed the organizations that be to dictate what we can and can not do, from disciplining our children, to drinking raw milk. How, absolutely ridiculous.

What drove this point, to frustration, for me was this follow excerpt.

“The FDA, however, says “raw milk, no matter how carefully produced, may be unsafe.” More than 1,000 people, including two who died, got sick from raw milk or cheese made from raw milk from 1998 to May 2005, according to the most recent count from the federal Centers for Disease Control.”

All that I can say to this is this; Really… 1000 people got sick over the course of seven years. Seven years and how many thousands of people? Oh no, two whole people died in America from raw milk, due to E. Coli, Salmonella, or Listeria monocytogenes. More people die each year from food poisoning from eating out at restaurants. I found a page with yearly food poisoning statics in America. According to the page and its numbers 76 million people get sick every year from food poisoning and 1 in 55,000 people die, per year, of food poisoning. Now, with the application of simple arithmetic you find that 1382 people die, per year, so that is 115 people that die from food poisoning per month! I think the FDA’s math skills are seriously screwed up, in order for the raw milk subject to be a blip on their radar.

The final part of my ire came from this statement.

Wisconsin has banned the sale and distribution of unpasteurized milk, although it allows “incidental sales” by farmers. It also permits farm owners to consume their own milk.

Ok, the restricting the of the sales of raw milk, I don’t agree with, but I can see where they are coming from. However, it “permits” the farm owners to consume their own milk? Who in the hell do they think they are to “permit” the imbibing of anything a farmer reaps for himself? This system is seriously flawed, and this is but a little piece of the problem.

Fuck the Wisconsin governing body.

It seems that in the infinite wisdom of the American government, water boarding is not torture!

This is great news! Not only that but unless that pain is equivalent to organ failure or death, then nothing is torture. The great thing about this measurement is, that the people who experience organ failure usually die and those that die just are not saying if it hurts or not. So barring killing someone your punishments are fair game everyone.

I can’t wait to hear about the first principal of a high school that water boards a student to find out why he cut class. “I wasn’t torturing little Billy. It was tough love. We just needed the information of were he was so we know that he wasn’t in any danger. Any loving parent would use this technique. Our government would not use this technique if it was amoral or wrong in any way,” is what he would say.

Why am I still here writing this when I could be out not-torturing coworkers? So long for now, and I will try to brainstorm on some technique that don’t felt like organ failure or death!

I find it fairly humorous that I saw the American President for the first time just a couple of days ago. Yes, it was on lifetime but that is beside the point. I find it pretty funny that the people at the New York Times must have seen the same movie because the day after it aired, they run an article about John McCain’s exploits with a female lobbyist, which is the premise of the movie, the American President.

It is always good to see such fine journalism that appears to be driven from the program scheduling of a cable TV station. Well, I guess the only thing left to do is get some popcorn and see if McCain winds up with the lobbyist as his second wife. It could be a new reality TV show called, The First Second (Wife) and depending on the ratings season two could feature Romney.

I found an interesting article that popped up about concealed carry guns on campuses in the USA and low and behold it was from my old college town, Salt Lake City, Utah.Utah is the only state in the nation to allow the possession of a concealed firearm, on one’s person, on all campuses across the state. I personally don’t think it is a bad thing, however, making this public is a subject that can cause problems. Don’t get me wrong here, not just any Joe can walk around campus with a pistol that they buy. You must have a state conceal and carry permit for the gun. It requires lengthy background checks and it requires classes as well. Also, just having the concealed carry card can yield benefits with police as well. If pulled over, immediately let the office know that you have the concealed carry card and display it with your license, let him know if it is in the car and then abide by what they ask you to do. It appears for traffic violations like speeding etc, if you display the card they have to do an extra set of paper work, so most people who display the card usually get warnings. This is just coming from experience with a close friend I have in Utah that get pulled over a few times a year and has only gotten warnings ever since he started carrying his weapon. Will this change anything on the campuses? Probably not. Will it causes a political rally of some sorts? Probably. In this day and age I can see the arguments from both sides of the equation, and coming from the country I tend to lean to the side of keeping with the 2nd Amendment. Responsible people can have accidents with guns, but people who skirt the system to get guns are the ones you have to really worry about.

“Now, that doesn’t mean we won’t develop some kind of office somewhere in Africa. We haven’t made our minds up,” Bush said Wednesday. “I want to dispel the notion that all of a sudden America is, you know, bringing all kinds of military to Africa. It’s just simply not true.” –George W. Bush

I just don’t understand why congress would let this guy go out and speak to people unscripted. Granted he does probably have trouble reading but still, it would definitely be worth the investment in the long run. I just don’t understand how we let him get away with speaking like I do normally. Being that I am from the country and bad english is pretty much the norm there, I am used to his speak. Be that as it may, I would think that if I ever had the gumption to strive for the presidency of a world power I would probably look into some courses in speech, grammar and diction. I am not stating that I could speak any better than he does but I just wish that you had a representative of the country that doesn’t sound like a buffoon all of the time. Now to end with a quote from this this master of eloquence.

“The purpose of this is not to add military bases. I know there’s rumors in Ghana — ‘all Bush is coming to do is try to convince you to put a big military base here.’ That’s baloney. Or as we say in Texas, that’s bull.”
